Standing charge

Hi all my standing charge for electricity has just doubled to 50.6 p per day , even if I switch off at the main there will still be a charge of 180 pounds plus !, where's the justification ?

I can't see how the standing charge can be increased. The infrastructure has not changed.

I think I would check out ‘opportunism’ similar argument as used by the mobile phone companies to reintroduce roaming charges. Amazing how they could do it for nothing when they were told to do so.

Googling British gas standing charges show dual fuel charges as per day Electricity 50p on my bill 50.6
Gas 37 p
so 87 x 364 = £316.68
Thats before any usage , then they go on to say there are no profit increases ,

Correction ,51.626P per day , that's paying by direct debit for both gas and electricity , so new figure combined 88.626 x 364 = £323.48 without usage ,

Yes, but the maintenance of it can. Think storm damage for one.

Cancel direct debit and tell then to do one. Its getting to the point where generator would be cheaper

Yes it has, and will be drastically - they are going to have to fund an enormous amount of work to satisfy the demand for all these electric cars.

According to our 'smart' meter we have used 0.00KWh in 5 months and paid £37 in standing charges for the pleasure!

So if I buy an electric car will the cabling supplying my house have to be replaced to cope with increased load (if I could afford it ) might be tempting as the moronic fuel hoarders have emptied all garages within a 20 mile radius

its not the cable that feeds your house. its the whole infrastructure. main cable supplies and transformers need upgrading . yarm high street near us has had 3 lots of cabling repaired as it had burnt out with overload. by rights the whole street should be rewired

Not just that we dont have enough generation to easily meet current demand. They have a lot of planning for 6pm and 8pm kettles when people get home and in the break of soaps etc... They havent got a chance when every household plugs in multiple 20kw cars at 6pm and start cooking. 30 years of neglect and asking us to pay for it now.

However there is an idea that cars can be used as grid energy storage. Your car can help smooth out demand, extra wear on your battery and could be half flat if you use it at odd hours. No thanks.
