Standard nevo isolator valve instead of a FULL bore nevo isolator.

A while ago I got a basic 22mm nevo isolator valve (as the pipe work is 22mm) in readiness for a job I have to do. I’m nearing the time to start the job now, and on looking inside the valve I can observe that the bore dia is only about 6mm. I decided to get a full bore 22mm for the job as I did not want to restrict the water flow.

I began to wonder what application a basic 22mm isolating valve with such a small internal dia would actually be used. Anyone know?

"Normal" valves are cheaper, and used in less critical places. With a short amount of pipe afterwords a small bore only has a tiny affect on flow rate and dynamic pressure

However sticking a 6mm bore valve at the start of a long pipe run is a different matter

Thanks for explaining the reason behind the two types.

There certainly is a price difference as you say. Currently £2.15 for the small bore, and £5.85 for the full bore.
I’m now thinking that if they stopped making the small bore option and only made the full bore, that would be a “cover all” applications, and maybe production/retail cost would come down, a kind of industry standard type of situation.

They probably cost pretty much the same to make, they'll hike the price on the full-bore.

The full bores are more complicated, the normal ones just have a ball with a hole drilled through, hence the old term of ball-o-fix valve

I’m not entirely sure what’s going on with the pricing aspect. Looking down the inside of the standard isolator, I can see the shape of a hexagon hole of approx 6mm dia, machined in to a brass insert within the valve. The more expensive full bore however has a ball type bit in the centre that swivels.

I think the hex hole is for an allen key.
