Hello, long time since I have played with my mig and need some practise. First attempts of stainless with some cheap unknown cutlery. I need to play with settings some more and get some more stainless. Spoons probably dont make a good exhaust patch..

I'll be welding up a stainless exhaust possibly next weekend. It is cracked around the collector.

I am not using the ideal mix gas, this is pure argon. I also had the flow rate quite low 4lpm.. So surface is oxidised, but seems to clean up ok. I do have a full 9L bottle so next time I will use that with higher flow.

How bad is it?

I love working with stainless, being a custom bike builder i use it all the time making sissy bars and forward controls.

Will be better off using a mixed gas.
Stainless needs to be MAG welded with active gas. Cant remember the exact mixtures, think its something like 3%co2, and 1.5% o2??
Straight argon is useless with a mig welder unless your welding aluminium (even then your better off with an argon/helium mix)
