I'm about to put up a gabion basket retaining wall, previous experience tells me hog rings pull apart and spiral wire is sometimes fiddly and relax to a point as the baskets take the weight of rock rubble, stainless steel tie wraps seem to address theses problems since they pull the baskets tight are they suitable.

Have a look at stainless steel looped wire ties ( get the shortest you need) and the associated tightening tool. Installed thousands of gabions, found this the best way.
