As anyone done any stainless steel mig welding. I've not done it before, but I'm able to with my welder, and was going to give it a go. So hoping someone could shed some light on the Do's & Don't that might be involved.
I do it all the time. Exhaust pipes and brackets. I just use .8 and Argoshield Lite. Works fine for my needs and gives really nice welds. I a using a Thermal Arc 181i Inverter.
Argoshield light and pure Argon are NOT the right gases for mig welding Stainless.
98%Ar 2%Co2
98%Ar 2%O
Ar He Co2
Are the correct gases.
Anything more than 3% Co2 is too much. No ifs no buts. Aside from adding Carbon to the welded joint from the gas which can cause rusting this will be huge reason why the welds are black.
If its a job you are charging for or if the integrity has to right, then I would only use the correct consumables and gas. But if its a non crucial/critical job for yourself with little or no consequences then Argoshield light would be a better choice than pure argon
