Stainless steel and gasless mig

Hi all

Just wondered if it's ok to use a gasless mig welder to weld stainless steel?

If so, what things should I be aware of?

You might be able to get it to stick for decorative purposes, but i would expect it to be a mess, and nothing else. Never tried it myself.

For s/s, you need s/s wire of the suitable grade. Using m/s & gas is possible, but not reccomended, shouldnt be even considered for anything critical.

Whats the job in hand Clarky, we might be able to come up with a better option for you...

I was hoping to weld a stainless rear exhaust silencer to a bit of stainless pipe.

I used to own a mig gas welder but someone kindly broke it for me and I've now been given this gasless welder to use.

You would probably get it to weld but as Hitch said it would be messy.

Plus you really need both bits of s/s to be the same grade with the correct wire, as when the exhaust heats up the 2 pices s/s will expand and shrink at diffrent rates and the weld will crack.
