Stainless grades

Hi all, I need some help, I need to replace a piece of stainless trim on my old rover that had got damaged by me in an attampt to remove it to undertake some rust repairs. I can make another part but am unsure what grade to purchase that will not rust or tarnish as it's subject to all weathers.

It's the brushed stainless part which is about 1mm thick

An offcut of 316 wouldnt give you any trouble no matter what, you may well get some nastyness where its in contact with the rusty steel though.

On such a small bit any price difference would be minimal anyway.
