Stainless Chains

Couple of pictures of a nice little stainless job.
All in 316 stainless.
Chains from 20mm bar, rings from 25mm bar.

Couple of sets of chains, various sized links, and a ploughy thing they pull along in the sea.

Finished as far as I am concerned, but going for blasting, then to be load tested.

Why do they need to plow the sea bed? It's a big ol' area to plow with something the same size as a euro pallet

Whats the load testing for? Just to make sure they don't loose it if it snags?
Never had stainless blasted? Come up nice?

Rolled plate for the fins? 8mm?

Not have the stop/start away from the corner on the towing eye?

What is it scallop dredge?
Nice work as well especially the chains.
Would it not have been cheaper to buy the chain in on the roll?
It would make a killer sledge if we get snow again

Not sure, its only about 3tons. It won't come off, near on a 10mm weld.

I wouldn't say the blasting is all that nice, but it does make it good and even.

To be honest, id expect so, although the links are different lengths for some reason.

Have you radiused-off the hole in the connection plate or just countersunk?

Nice job, the pulsed mig is nice on stainless isn't it.
I assume it'll be glass bead blasted, we used to do a lot of our machinery in that finish, looks smart and saves loads of work cleaning up,

The lugs are machined to a 10mm radius Paul.

Blasting as a time saving measure, chain is a right royal pain to polish, bad enough just cleaning the weld off, bigger links easy, flap pad fits in, smaller links done with a die grinder.

looks a diddy little plough, most around here are about 4-6m and M/S, Nice job, Client must be a bit of a conciser to go to all the effort with the S/S.

Makes sense I suppose, very limited knowledge of how/what it does.

Identical to the smaller old type paravanes we used to use in 2D seismic survey work.

It seems strange it being made in stainless for I've been led to understand that stainless steel errodes quicker than steel on each joint due to the dielectric ionization etc when chains are used in the sea /salt water
Thats why anchor chains are steel not stainless apparently .
Was ithe chain made from some super quality stainless steel ??

316 stainless, that's all. Nothing out of the ordinary.
