Stainless antenna whips/Tig wire ?

looking for a stainless whip for use with an antenna base loading coil. Its 2.5mm, and approx 53" length.

I can buy one from an online CB retailer for £4, but the postage is an eye watering £12.50 .


I was wondering whats available in terms of stainless Tig rods/wires in this sort of diameter, and what lengths are they available in please ?

Nothing at 53” in length ref tig wire and you certainly ain’t buying stainless welding consumables for less than £16.

Look and see if you can get stainless steel tieing wire locally.
I think i'ts about that thickness (can check the size later when I get home) but I can't see it being cheaper.

Ae SS rod is tensile, tying wire, Tig rod, wont last a day at that length, the longest we keep is 48inches.
Don't think any Comms Co would keep that length, as you say CB stockist
The problem shipping is they have to be strapped to a baton or in a cardboard tube (Elf & saefty) think eye poked out.

OK thanks for the informative replies. found a couple of whips on ebay or Ill see what I can make from the £50 VHF tribander that I had less than a month before a tree bough took it in half and it did a Brian Harvey under the truck back wheel

Often trying to make things ‘work’ just to save 6 or 7 quid doesn’t work out especially if trying to make something unintended do the job. Just pay the £16 and get the proper thing for the job.
