Staffies ?

Hello folks

I'm considering a to buy a dog , s staffordshire bull terrier ( the original bigger one , not the small one ) .
In the beginning the blue one was thrilling me , male absolutely .

Well there are some breeders around here , and I had to phone almost all of them just to understand pros and cons about this beautiful animal .

All of them told me that blue staffies have skin problems most of the time , so I switched to black colour .
But , another person told me that male staffies will change completely their behaviour after the 3rd year of life , becoming more aggressive with other dogs and with persons .

That sounded strange to me , I had a deep research online in these months and I've seen just a few cases of hyper active dogs , but nothing crazy . Most of staffies owners report a good experience with this breed , they say the dog is strong , loyal , friendly with kids , loves to stay with owners all the time and have fun with them .

Anyone here can give me a response about ?

All the ones I've ever met were lovely characters, I'd also say do get a rescue one..

Fabulous dogs in the right household.
Put any dog in hyper surroundings and it can end up being a nightmare, put them in a calm one and their temperament will also be calm.
I’d have a houseful of them if I could.
I really do miss having one, they’re such wonderful dogs.

mine loves me and family and any one that comes around wants to make friends have strokes and attention etc

but does not realy like attention from other dogs but easy to get round just keep her on a lead


they are heavy dogs and pull like hell if they want to im not small so easy for me but otherhalf has to be carefull

wonderfull dogs as are all of them mines white

We've had a couple of rescue staffies, both came with behavioural issues but within no time they're loving, playful lumps that just want to be with you every minute of the day.

I really like the idea of giving a rescue dog a good forever home.

We on our third lot of dogs now - and probably the last ones we will have at our age.

We have always had puppies and kept them for there wholes lives.

If I had a rescue dog we might inherit problems - so that is why we always have had puppies...

Every dog we’ve had has been a rescue, either from a shelter or via someone who knows someone who needed to rehome it.
Dexter is our 8th.

soft as any thing

i can take a ball out of her mouth take food away from her while she eats even a bone let me play with her paws ears if i need to not even a growl out of her

but as a deterrent any one comes in my garden she barks to let they know they are there

we have had her from a puppy so id hope we brought her up well

yes you cant tell what did a hear the other day we as humans we are all murderers we just need the right reason to react im sure dogs are the same what ever that trigger is

Good friend has had countless rescues springers and alsatians.


They require work for sure.

I had a black pure breed staffie great dog put in the work and training he was great on and off the lead total control and recall, not like my Akita now he will never be off the lead out in public. The staffie would do anything you asked of him. I did meet the parents too and they were the same owned buy the same family.

We had an assistant at work for a while who had kept Staffies for years.
He was late in one morning and had his arm bandaged up. Turned out the previous night one of his older Staffies (about 6 year old IIRC) had turned on him for no reason, so having been patched up the night before in hospital, he'd been at the vet first thing getting her put down. He said he'd heard about them turning for seemingly no reason, but that was the first he had personally experienced it.

We have a rescue shepherd, I have no idea what the previous owners did to him but he is not all there upstairs, hates other dogs with a vengeance, makes walking him interesting.

My brother had two and now just the one. Both were a nightmare, nothing to do with the breed but my brother who had little control over them. My mother would have them under control in no time though. I know others who've had them and they make great family pets.
I would echo what others have said about getting a rescue. They may need a bit of effort to begin with but usually know all the basics and getting the out socialising and you’re rewarded with a loving dog. You still have to through all this with a pup but with toilet training too.

I would say an awful lot comes down to the owner, they don't need to be dominated but you do need to be the assertive
