Squarewave & Sinewave & Pulsing

Would i notice the benefit of a squarewave machine over a sinewave machine welding clean 2 mm sheet ALu. Motorcycle radiators and race car parts etc?

Also is pulsing just for aluminioum and is it worth paying the extra for. I tried it on an 8K Miller last weekend and the weld looks tidier but that was a top of the range welder. Maybe on a £1000 butters with pulse it may not be so good.

On that subject are the 200 amp ac/dc butters any good.

I can get a new one for about £1000

Or another option is a Parweld for about a grand which is squarewave and has pulsing.

I believe both are Chinese made and come with 1 year warranties. Apparently Parweld have their own factory over there.

Anyone tried these?

No, it's not just for aluminium, it's for steel as well. I have a DC only TIG unit (meaning it can't do aluminium) and it has a pulse control knob on it.

Really depends what you need the machine for. Pulse draws heat away from the metal and is therefore beneficial when you're welding really thin metal or doing long welds.

Pulse handy, but not necessary, If you got it you use it, If you haven't the your not spending every day wishing you had,

Also handy on thick sections of AL, gives you more time to move forward and control the pool when every things really hot.....

Decent square wave rectification can mean you can lose the H/F after pilot arc on A/C handy if your welding at MOD bases/airports nuclear facility's, but again handy but not necessary....

You could by yourself simerla machines (in my opinion exactly the same) direct from Ebay and save yourself about £500 notes.......

i like the pulse function on my Esab Aristotig. Almost always i use the pulse function when doing thinner stuff or corners and transitions between thick/thin metal. but for my welding it is nothing more than a gimmick, i could do without on most jobs. But in the future i expect that it will be very usable since i am going to weld more difficult stuff.
