spring over axle conversion

Ok following on from my snapped leaf spring,

I have decided on doing a spring over conversion and fitting a creaper joint in the shackle hanger for more flex rather than stressing the springs.

It looks pretty straight forward to do just heavy work moving the axle about ect ect.

Have any of you guys done this I am sure there are a few of you that could advise/give me some tips/ pros and cons.

Hi Lee, with the L200 being IFS, doing the spring over the axle on the rear won’t it look like a hot rod with its ass in the air ? Is there a relocation conversion kit for the IFS ?

A friend of mine did it to an old landy so he could fit dick cepek fun countrys. He had to adapt the brake lines but from what he said it was not a bad job to do

Hi Mate

I already have the kit to raise the front up via ball joint spacers and torsion bar adjustment and longer front arms the back is already up too with the longer shackles but if i do the SOA I can go back to shorter shackles. It aint just about the lift the hanger plates and U bolts being below the axle get stuck into the ground and take a bashing off road last time I snapped the lower shock mount off too

Sounds like you also need some diff guards and bracing under there

the diffs are rock solid on the rear I have the front half and fuel tank protected maybe ill fab something up when doing the conversion I do have a few Meters of 8mm plate

right getting the bits together for this conversion, I know the perches for the springs need to be welded on pretty dam straight and true or I am going have camber and toe problems so i need to make some kind of jig up from the lower perch to get the top ones welded on true to match, any ideas on how to do this greatly received
