'Spring bit' in handle problem

Iv been using my 160te fine so far, except today i have been using it quite alot for long periods.

The 'spring bit' inside the handle seems to have had some of the wire melted to it some how :s

needless to say i ruined it trying to free the stuck wire.

What is its proper name and where can i get one?

Clarke manuals here for the terminology, sadly no 160TE model but looking at the 160TM gives you a nice torch diagram and the appropriate labels.

Where do you get one? Where else... ask weldequip! The button's just... up... there ^

but the ones iv seen for sale look like twice as long as mine, could the previous owner have cut it in half or are the 160 ones shorter than the rest?

Im not sure, one end is flared out so im not sure the none flared half would work as well.

How did the filler-wire burn back to there? I mean, there's; a contact tip, the insert it fits into, then the swan neck housing. All that before it even gets to the swan neck liner...

Electrical contact fault? Might be worth doing a forum search on it to see if anyone else has had similar troubles...

When I take the shroud off mine (tip changes, wire changes, etc.), I use the opportunity to clean up the tip assembly & shroud with a wire brush.

They are normally supplied overlength to suit different models and you just cut it to suit with a pair of sidecutters, then clean the cut end on a grinder.

I have overheated the tip on my Clarke 130 and the end of the spring warped real bad. They are not that hard to replace.
