Spraying Wood Burners/Chimneas

Hi, I have been making a few chimneas for the family for fun and have been hand painting them with high temperature stove paint, "thermacure", I'm not too happy with the results I am getting with a brush, and as I have a compressor I have thought why not spray them?, I been following the thread on these bergen mini spray guns and they seem to be Ideal for the small jobs I would need to do, but what I would like to know is how to look after the spray gun once it has been used, is there a special type of cleaner you buy or is it the same as what you would thin the paint down with?, also the compressor I have has uni-high flow fittings, so if this all sounds basic, but i have never sprayed using a compressor at all and just wanted to get up and running safely, many thanks

get yourself a large can of gunwash ...swill out the gun until its clean and then dismantle the air cap , fluid tip and need and make sure theyre all clean

What paint are you going to use that will handle the heat?, I have used high temp spray cans and also the brush paint. and much prefer the brush for better more even coverage,

Hi Gordon the paint is called thermacure found here http://www.thermacure.co.uk/ I bought the 500ml can of brush on paint, my thinking was if I already had a compressor and buy a descent spray gun the results would be better?

Plasticote Projekt piant in an aerosol gives a decent finish, thr Range are selling it at six quid a can which is a bargain too.

They do their stove paint and bbq paint. The stove paint is a nice black satin, not sure about the bbq but I think its much the same.

When I was knocking out lots of stoves, I seriously looked at electrostatic kit, as the loss due to overspray with the very expensive paint was noticable. At the time though, the kit was pretty expensive. Like you, brush was not smooth enough.

What are you going to use to thin it so you can spray?

I use 2k thinners when spraying high-temp paints (and other enamels too).

Slight hijack, how is the thermacure? I have used rustins high temp and it has blistered already with only a small fire in the burner to cure it.

well I have not set a fire in one after being painted, as soon as we get some descent weather I will, and report back
