Spraying Oil

Wotcha y'all.

I have to spray Castrol DWX 30 oil - it's a water remover and rust inhibitor, on some large machined components. Any suggestions as to the best tool to use to spray?

I don't want to use a standard paint spray gun if I can help it - i'd rather keep it simple. Not sure about a Schutz gun either...

All I can say re viscosity is...

Viscosity Kinematic: <7 mm 2/s (<7 cSt) at 40°C (whatever that means)

How about one of these?

Hi Simon, I used to use one of those pressure garden sprayers similar to this to coat machinery components with Ensis fluid, when we sent stuff abroad,

Now there's an idea Paul, cheers. We were going to use Ensis fluid, but could only find it in 205 ltr drums, so it's the castrol.

We're coating cos the engineer wants to make sure there's no rusting over Xmas, while we're not there. I was up for spraying hydraulic oil over everything - we've a lot of it lying about, but yer man doesn't want to take any risks. The gear is worth. like, £50k or so, so maybe worthwhile doing. I notice though, coverage is about 90m/ltr, so we might have a bit going spare.

Something like this http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/images/wax.jpg minus the waxoil, i`ve got one somewhere and some empty tins, if i knew where could give it a try.

Don`t really understand the viscousity thing, but i know 7cst is still fairly thin, what about one of those garden spray pump things, like the council use for weeds, we used to use them with diesel and they lasted ok.

Trouble with hyd oil is it doesn't dry and either drips and makes a mess, or it attracts dust, Ensis drys like a thin film of varnish and can be removed with a wipe of gunwash or similar spirit,

Looks like its comparable to fuel oil....

If youve not much to spray, how about using a pressurized hand sprayer, like the sort you use with water based anti spatter etc.
(A hand held vertion of the pump up weed sprayer)
