Spraying Matte/Satin paint ?

Need to respray the inside of my car and like the look of a matt black finish,

im abit worried as have been told that you can't polish or wax matt black paint ?
so my major concern is would i have to get the finish straight from the gun with no mistaks as couldnt get away with defects, runs etc by just flattening and compounding them out ? as im not confident of getting a perfect finish with out having to flatten down !

has anyone got any tips ?

I've been spraying a lot of satin black recently. Popped out to the garage for a test on a hidden area and it does appear to come up looking gloss after a T-cut and polish. Not an entirely helpful response apart from validating the problem.

I've not had problems getting a nice finish out of the gun. Perhaps satin is easier, but my work so far on fiddly bits hasn't needed anything to make it nice. I was using cellulose for my bits.

Would be using cellulose aswell, but as the inside of the car has alot of awkard parts to do i just know il get the odd drip or run and didnt want to find out if i rectify these area's they would stand out like a sore thumb

I would go for Satin black, just remember you don't have to lay it on thick, just watch the spray as it passes, if it looks wet(ish), it'll be fine. Having said that, if you get it a little bit on the dry side, it really won't show. It's only a true gloss that will pick up the slightest of imperfections.

Get a can from halfords and give it a try on some scrap, I think you'd be surprised at what you can achieve.!!

I wouldn't use MATT though, it'll look bloody awful!!!

Just been using some satin black celly on bumpers, best stuff i've ever used. It's Selemix from PPG, made froma satin base rather than gloss with a matting agent, which is the usual way with celly. Went on dead easy, perfect finish with a crappy gun! If you do get a run or similar, you can just flat it back and paint the area, it just blends in.

I find the stuff in rattle cans is a bit thin, and works out exspensive. I pay £12 for a litre of the Selemix, or £40 for 5 litres (gloss or otherwise).

matt black=chalk board it will show anything that touches it.
satin all the way.
keep a artist's brush to hand.and quickly wipe of any runs/drips.do it quick,like one stroke. dont play with it,or leave it to dry at all.

By definition you'd be removing the matt by polishing or cutting. Has to be final finish out of the gun. As a home/non-pro user afflicted with dust and suicide bugs in the paint room I put on decent coverage, then flat out any nibs of dust etc. Then a final thin light coat, everything in the garage clean as poss, damped floot and all that. No touching with sandpaper etc on the last blow.

A thin coat last also helps with keeping the satin, too wet a coat seems to let it flow out a bit gloss sometimes.

Thanks for the advice, il order up some satin black and fingers crossed it all goes well and il use some of the tips said if i get any mistakes, should get round to it next weekend hopefully so il let you know how it went.
