Picked the flypress up tonight, paid and collected...thing is seriously heavy...like hernia inducing heavy, even between 2 blokes...thing has to weigh 90-100KG

Mines a no2 not a denbeigh though. I agree deceivingly heavy. Killed me getting it in and out of the van. Clean up and fresh paint are on my to do list. Its a long list.

when mike said to me "2 strong blokes" I thought...nah...nothing that small is THAT heavy...thinking 45ish KG, thing is def a 2 strong bloke lift...we both did a weight test and no way either of us was lifting that thing alone...and both of us can lift 45KG alone, maybe slightly more with good hand holds

When I was younger I got a lump of stainless at the scrappies, 175mm dia and about 1m long, got it into the back of the borrowed caddy pickup myself, out of the pickup and into my car and then back out of the car at the metal stockists who chopped it into 3 for me. I can hardly lift myself nowadays

When I moved house, I had to leave my no.6 behind - I simply didn't have the energy to re-home it :-(
It went to the scrappie, along with a couple of ton of other scrap.
Took four blokes to lift it into the pikey wagon.

It's not just the weight though is it. I have moved several and they are just such an awkward shape with a weird centre of gravity. The trick is to keep them low and flat on a trolley, then pick 'em up with a crane!

I took the top off my mill when I moved house, I lifted it off the column while stood on an elephants foot and then realised how heavy it was AND how high up I was.... and how out of balance I was .... and how many sharp edges there were nearby to land on.

Nothing like assessing the risk before doing a job!

I saw a Colchester bantam listed here which said it should be a four man lift to get it in the trailer. Good luck with that I thought, 343/4= ~85kg each if all the men are lifting equally. Saying that, I took my lathe (also a bantam) home in bits, including the tailstock which I somehow carried across town for half an hours walk. I lifted it up the other day and thought jeez, how did you ever bother to do that!

The central column on my fobco never fails to amaze me when I take it apart. A meter of solid steel 2" bar or thereabouts.
