Spot welds & drill bits

I need to add some more spot welds to a scooter frame.

I can't separate the panels to drill or puch holes in the top panel, so I need a way to drill through JUST the top panel.

A normal drill bit won't do as it will have gone through the bottom panel before it's cut the whole hole in the top.

Is there a better type of bit (forstner bit?) that will cut a flat bottomed hole?

Is such a bit available in a 5mm diameter?

lookingat those 2 the second one will go through both panels, but the first looks like it will do it.

I thought ALL spot weld bits were like the second one.

The guide pin in the middle is spring loaded, its just a guide to pick up a centre dot, so it only drills the top panel

This is probably what you're looking for, A cobalt spot weld drill bit from lb restorations - It's a 6mm drill bit with a flattened off tip designed to be used for removing spot welds. Don't use it it in a standard drill - use a cordless drill on a low speed otherwise you'll go straight through both panels.

Even if you do go through both panels ,use a brass/copper or aluminium backing bar and plug weld as normal, with grinding it won't be a problem...
