Hi,
just bought this model but the operating instructions have no reference to how the spot welding timer is used or how you do it. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Set up the welder for the material your welding then turn the spot weld timer up till you get the desired weld/penetration then simply point pull trigger and hold till timer cuts in you should have a nice looking spot weld
Think l've finally got it sussed. I've now realized that l need to buy a spot weld shroud to fit this torch, a part that is not stocked at the Machine Mart shops or even listed in their catalogue, but has to be ordered in seperately. Pity the owners manual doesn't tell you any of this. I will get there in the end.
You know MIG doesn't spot weld in the traditional sense - it lays a puddle on one panel and assumes the heat is high enough to penetrate through to the panel behind. You can do it perfectly well without the timer or the shroud.
Risky business though - the technique is sensitive to gaps between the two panels, and get the heat wrong and you won't get penetration through into the second panel. I much prefer plug welds for their reliability and strength.
Could be an idea to do a bit on scrap before buying a shroud.
