Some time back i purchased one of those little red spot welders from ali express. These ones -

Id seen reports of them burning up when used with low current power sources, so hooked it up to a 12v car battery. Booted up fine. Increased the power gradually, and got, i think, three tests out of it before the switching locked to open circuit and it momentarily turned into a stick welder, and then the magic smoke escaped.
It was about £15 delivered, so not the end of the world, but its disappointing as id watched all the videos, and paid attention to trying not to kill it, and it still died. Almost instantly.
....and i still need to spot weld up my battery packs.
Im wondering what to try now. All the units that look like the one i have will have been made in the same factory, im sure, and people on youtube seem to have a varying degree of success with them. Maybe buy another and hope for the best / do something else / buy something else.
Suggestions welcome?
