spool guns welding ali?

I've been toying with the idea of getting a spool gun for my 200amp mig to weld ali with. I have a WSE200 tig but the AC has gone and want a cheap short term replacement. What gas is used for welding ali with a mig is it C02/argon mix or is it 100% argon? Also how does miging ali compare to tig welding, do you need to weld prep thicker plates the same as steel or just wind the amps up and work slower?

You use 100% argon for aluminum. There are Argon/Helium mixes also for heavier stuff.

You don't need as much prep as TIG but it does need to be clean. I find it harder than TIG to set up current, weld speed etc. But once you get it, it works. Good for production-type work.
