M5 is not normally used for a morse taper.
Easier and more accurate to chuck up some roundstock and turn a 60 degree point on that.If the lathe chuck has minimal runout, should I buy a cylindrical bushing with a 4 or 5 taper and clamp it in the chuck
That's what I was thinking that the Bush somehow fits in the plate I have which is D8 , it has the pin in it to drive a dog but the centre of this drive plate is over 100mm , I should have taken a picture of it before I came homeCorrect me if I'm wrong, but as I see it a spindle bush without an outside taper would just push further into the spindle under the cutting forces and the pressure from the centre in the tailstock. A tight fitting bush with flange might work.
