While I'm on the case with the railings I want to bring the front gate back to life as it looks quite unloved:
And this is one of the original hinges:
OH made noises about measuring up for a new gate but I've exercised my power of veto in favour of a refurb. I have no idea how old it is or even if it's the original gate, but I do know that it's heavy. I'm undecided as to whether it's wrought iron or steel so was wondering how accurate an angle grinder spark test would be?
And while I appreciate that it would be easier to pay to have it blasted, the engineer (and tight-fisted Yorkshireman ) in me wants to do it myself.
