Arr right! the botched 360amp industrial Euro-torch chopped & stuck to the front of a 150amp hobby MIG!! I remember! Are people really that hard up? I know they are up North! but that beggars belief!! BIN IT

No, it could be a perfectly good welder once the torch is (correctly) sorted. Thing is, machines of that age really are not worth spending much time & money on. I know you do with old cars but that is a labour of love, old welders are not worth a carrot & not worth messing with.
Now your'e going to say "they don't build em like they used to do" & that is true to an extent. An older SIP Autoplus 130 is a far superior machine to the modern equivalent Migmate 130, but then again that Autoplus 130 cost about £250 20 years ago! which is about £500 nowadays (much more with inflation taken into account, but you will get a nice quality machine for £500).
So, quality sets are cheaper now than they have ever been! How many you want?

LOL, Already bought a new one (awelco unimig 210amp) but you knew that. been well impresed with it so far. Have now done a fair bit of thick stuff & also about 3 days worth of thin stuff (well 1mm to car body). Dint even put the .6mm back on as it coped ok with .8mm I guess if I was going thiner still I would need the .6mm. Had the amps down to 35 (specs says it will go to 30 but would not weld with the .8 at that).
You could get someone to measure the resistance on a working welder (people on this forum seam friendly enough), You could proberbly get one from RS then.
You may find that the burned out resistor is a symptom though and not a cause and as soon as you change it , it burns out again, although it looks like bad design to me as i have seen the resistors of that size fitted with heat sinks in the past notably on rc cars
might be worth doing though if you can fix it for a £5,
the smaller relay located next to it looks like its melted also, which could be also be the problem, the resistor may be fine
Hi,
I also have the same problem with my 100e, was working fine then no drive. Tested the back of the motor and its not showing any volts, I haven't tried supplying 12v directly to the contacts but as it stopped working instantly and the gears turn by hand recon the rest of the gearbox is prob OK.
The resistor is also cooked on my board but I can still read the printing on it
2R2 5W
If you have a look at maplins site and search the 7watt resistors you will be able to find one.
Prob worth a try < £5 inc P&P but as Powermandan mentions it could be a symptom and not the root cause, so I may need a new controller but worth a try.
Sounds like it's well worth a shot for the price of a resistor. Let us know how you get on. Might be a common problem if you are the second person to have the trouble in just a few months, so it would be good to know if that fixes it.
Also welcome to the forum and thanks for posting the resistor value.
