spare wheel carrier question

as said at the start.

right i am making a spare carrier for the truck as the 33's break the hanging mechanism and i cant afford to keep buying them!


the wheels are just too big for the factory fit place and mechanism now so a new place has been decided upon I think

Any reason why you can't store it in the load bed ?
I'd have it vertical behind the cab and bias to the passenger side then shorten the roller shutter to fit.

Yep that's what I did on my Transit , 'cos if you are using a truck as a truck , were ever you put a spare it's always in the way ..... I had a mate with a Transit luton years ago he was moving sound gear for a film company, he spent all morning loading and when he was due to leave ,he spotted his front nearside was flat..and the spare was in the luton ..... Bahhhhh...jeff

I aint that bloody strong mate its 26kg hard enough to lift it into the tub let alone onto the bars ontop of the roof and it will also act as a fook off wind break and make my center of gravity too high

right its going to be 5mm 50mm box section but i want to cap the cut ends with 50mmx50mm angle will the ends weld on ok or will it create a vacuum or something as i weld it

The ends will weld on OK, at worst you will get a little pin prick blow in the second cap as the pressure builds up inside.

thanks woody ok then thats as i thought ill drill my stud holes first before i weld the caps on then that way once i fit the carrier it will be air tight

started work on this today as I found the perfect donor metal at work well nearly perfect but it was free

space between those hoops is pretty much wasted anyway so it seems a fair place to put it.

Make sure you have a lock on it.
