I'm off out Boat fishing in the Northsea tomorrow so today i had a bit of time on my hands so knocked these up.....

Quite elaborate boat fishing weights. They will probably get snagged and snap off on the first cast. but i just wanted to have a mess about with me welder. Turned some bits on the lathe too.

Had the power whacked right up for the ball bearing. Seemed to penetrate better than i expected

Think the bearing one is a good idea actually, depends what you are fishing for of course but it should roll nicely with the current, allowing a bit of ground to be covered, I would connect it with a swivel link to get the best out of it.

The other one stands a good chance of knocking them out, then you can get it when it floats to the top unconcious

I got the bearing from work. I'm a CNC machinist and we make these.....

Unfortunately we only order balls in and there are only a few left over ever now and then.


Had a good day out today, caught a few decent cod and a bucket full of mackerel.



Had homemade fish + chips for tea tonight (and probably for the rest of the week).

Used the ball bearing weight and it stayed on all day. Worked well when we were drifting over wrecks and rough ground.

Yes and various other applications, tower cranes, mobile cranes, tank turrets, wind turbines and anything else that's big and spins round .

The first one pictured looks like 360 digger bearing judging by the size of it. The second picture looks like a crane bearing i think.

Try cooking them in cider batter. I was very sceptical of this one, bowl of flour tip cider in it, and mix it like crazy, gives lovely fluffy crunchy batter; use a dry cider not a sweetened one. Does not taste cidery.
I lived in Hull for two years, to me fish and chips is food of the Gods.
Has to be done right, but cant beaten.
In Herefordshire they sell 'fish' and chips. But cant say what 'fish' it is, it certainly aint cod or haddock. Scary.

That size is actually one of the smaller bearings we make. We make them up to 4 meters in diameter at our factory. Our sister company in Germany can make sectional bearings up to 18 meters, Yes 18 meters!!!

They actually reckon the Cod is back. I believe that since all of the intense commercial fishing/trawling has died out the Cod have increased in numbers especially for leisure fishermen. My mates and I go out on boats 2 -3 times a year and we seem to pull them out every time. One guy pulled a 18.5lb Cod a few weeks ago.

Sounds nice, will have to try that. We (well the wife) usually use a nice lager batter but they always taste nice when you catch them yourself
