I need a couple of replacement contact points for plunger-type dial indicators. Anyone know where I can get spare roller points? One of my indicators has lost it's point and the other the ball will not turn.
In an emergency for a one off, quite often you can press a old spoke into service as a plunger rod...
Not quite your question but in the area around it
Get a ball bearings and a bit of silver steel and make one/some.
I manged to have a draw of dial indicators and only one tip!
I made a whole bunch of them, ranging from 4mm bearings to 1/2 diam
flats, only problem now is I keep loosing them and I have indictors with 4 different threads;-)
You don't need a ball. I used to make anvils (ends for dial indicators) for Baty gauges. They used to be in all shapes and sizes for various applications, none with balls then. All made of EN1A, case hardened and polished by a little slave (me!) on a pillar drill. W/A
Cheers for the replies!. I have stoned the old tip to a pretty good finish now so I'll polish it later on the buffer. The missing one I've found in the tray of my lathe.
MrFluffy - I have a collection of spokes as extensions for dialling in cams on bikes. The thread's not a perfect fit but it hold them - just about.
