Spanner storage - crocodile / sharks teeth racks?

Ive got too many spanners to lay them out in tool box draws.

I was going to get some of these -

Theyre the sealey ones - £5.32 inc delivery, but theyre not magnetic or anything.

Are they any good, or do they just fall over all the time in a semi-mobile tool box?

You can get some with tape on the back.If you get plain ones,stick them down with "no more nails" double sided tape,and cut the drawer liners to fit between them.

That's cheap, Snap on charge a lot more.
I have used them for years and feel they ate the best for spanners

as i say, thats just over a fiver, inc vat and delivery.

Seems theyre probably the ones to go for them. Its only a fivers worth of purchase, but i just hate buying junk, that, worse than the money spent, i then dont chuck out the object, so end up stepping over it for ever after.

No good for open ended spanners but for combination or ring spanners I bought some things from Teng that are like a big carabiner (spelling?). I did look at using the cheapo ones you can buy as keyrings but as they get big enough to hold 10 or so spanners the material is too thick to go through the smaller spanners so proper ones for the job it had to be.

I tend to just grab the set and take them to the job rather than grabbing just the spanner I need from the rack so this system works better for me.

The crocodile teeth work well, but you'll have to put them on stilts for 22mm and upwards or the spanner is so big its taller than the teeth. That said, mine (crocodile teeth) are snap-on and all the same size, not ascending like those.

I've started using the croc teeth ones, not bad and sometimes better than the fixed racks as you can adjust the distance between the two rows of teeth to suit your spanners and you can cut them in half for big and small size sets.

I have some similar racks with 32 slots, they make relatively good use of the space and still allow you to read the face.

Gotta love a well organised spanner drawer :-) I used to spend....minutes.....looking for the right spanner. Now I know exactly where they all are.

I looked every where for some, the snap on ones arnt that good for mobile use, then was cutting up an old pallet crate box that we had some evo 10 windscreens sent in and there at the bottom was some rubber strip for the screen edges to fit in, and to stop and space the the glass, they stand about 10-12mm to the bottom of the castles and where stapled in the bottom, they turned out perfect they are 2 x one long strip, the exact width of my box and they dont need sticking coz they are 24mm wide and dont slip coz they are rubber. My spanners never move even though they get thrown round all over and are easily picked out
Try going to a screen place and have a look at the old crates

For my lid of my rally box I use the snap on 'ladder' racks that the spanners clip into, but they do tend to fall out when the lid is shut I have a piece of foam to hold them in place when shut.


I made a typo i put 24 mm wide meant 42mm wide.

I have a similar set of racks as the op is looking at - but they are asymmetrical and opposite to each other, small to big on one pair and big to small on the other pair, with one rack of each pair longer than the other so that the edge of the spanner set remains parallel to the drawer edge. That way you can have two full sets of spanners side by side taking up less drawer space

I have a set of snap on spanners up to 36mm in a rack like the op is looking at, it's only the snap on racks which are restrictive

They are perfectly good for ordinary ring spanners but the deep offset ring spanners don't fit at all. Which of course all my spanners are, Grrrr

I use some offcuts of some old 50x15mm wide weld-mesh guarding. Chopped to size then folded at 90deg down the center. free and do the job up to 42mm spanner easy.

I use a Facom tool roll, means you can just pick it up and go where you are working and unroll it.

I loath those things -

If you fold the top square, then the small spanners drop out.

If you fold it at an angle, its a mess when you roll it.

(of course, im sure other people love them! : )

Spanners don't drop out of that one, nylon mesh holds them in. Also has a strap around it with clip you can adjust.
