not the most interesting sounding of projects but theres some welding and fabrication going on that i didnt plan on
got a nice old janair 130,000btu diesel space heater at the local clearance auctions £22
then striped it to scrape the years (and inches) of muck off it, i didnt take any before shots as didnt plan on it being a project
so here it is at the moment
the fuel tank painted, those god awfull run are from the first paint i attempted
lot better with the new stuff
the outer tube that houses tha fan and combustion chamber, the muck in there was coated on everything. like mud
some fan bits and the fuel filter off of what looks like a ford mondeo?
the tube with the nut on was the pickup pipe dangling in the fuel filler pipe. the original pickup pipes gauze filter had cloged up so instead of cleaning it the previouse owners bodged this
then the real project, the combustion chamber! seems to have been a bit combusted over the years
the seam had split and a lump was missing out of one bit so welded and patched it up as best i could
the metal had become very brittle and rusty over the years
then theres this bit.....

now im at a quandry as to how big the new cone thing (diffuser?) should be? that monstrosity was about the size of the tube and seemed to have a bit of a flange on it?
think the theory is to keep as much heat in the tube to heat the air being blown around it, but it cant be choked obviously. anyone with a diesel heater shed any light?
so i started to make a new cone about 1-2 cm smaller than the tube.
first take one mini door and add one plasma cutter -
the top bit was cut out for the patch, screw in the middle with a bit of wire tied round the torch
works quite well!
then cut a slot bend and
if it is too big i can trim some off the bottom.
took some of the smaller parts to work and have blasted them, this things going to be gleaming
best get my heating sorted now rather than farting about with numb hands
