Sourcing Titanium

I'm hoping to find some Titanium to machine bolts, nuts, and some spindles from.

Anyone have reccomendations on where to get this material?

I got some of ebay recently.
a guy in NI is selling 40mm bar off cuts
search for titanium bar
plenty of other stuff there

I get the impression the ebay prices are a bit high because it's a small quantity. If I can find a stockist to sell me a complete bar, I think the price would tumble. Hopefully.

Not sure its enough to meet your needs though. 2 strips of say 25mm x 100mm?

Been a while since i've bought any but Titek but were the most helpful when i last had a ring around- among the cheapest and the most open to dealing with small orders/the little guy. Timill be worth a call too

Still be worth a quick butchers on ebay, common stuff like aluminium/stainless virtually always well overpriced but the odd Ti bargin appears

Not trying to teach you to suck eggs but with regards to cutting bolt threads, is it going to be worth it? Never going to be as strong and fatigue resistant as commercially made bolts with rolled threads. If the application means they don't need to be would aluminium fastners be acceptable?

Plus cut Ti threads will gall. The rolled type are bad enough

I'm a newbie to that, but it would be possible to roll them anyway. I think it's a bit debatable as to wether they are required, but as I say, newbie! If you could enlightern me I'd appreciate it.

Rolled versus cut threads and thread galling. Galling article is about stainless fasteners but applies as least as much with Ti (can also be an issue when machining the stuff, googling 'titanium machining' will get a bunch of good links).

Regarding whether you want (or need) Ti fasteners... all depends on the application, very generally can use grade 5 (6Al4V) Ti bolts as you would 8.8 steel. If the origional application used 10.9 or higher fasteners then you're into special/expensive replacements in order to save weight.
