Sourcing 100mm conduit to carry electric cables.

Well chaps, google failed me and even calling city electrical brought nowt.

So, does anyone know where I can get some 100mm (4 inch) conduit to lay ready for Western Power to come and install my 3 phase supply?

Apparently having a smooth wall and being flexible are not compatible with each other.

Try calling it cable duct. Google seems to find 100mm cable duct ok.

Dom I would check with them as to exactly what they want. Around here they wont use or install their cable in generic 4" cable duct, its all 125mm and has to marked up for electricity.

down here uk power supplied the cable duct for me to install, thought it would be gold plated for the cost of the job but was just black plastic!

The cable duct is smooth-walled internally and corrugated externally, as above I would confirm the diameter as 125mm internal is a common size.

This is an extract from their email to me.

100mm black electric duct is fine. Smooth walled and roped. You should lay a marker tape about 100mm above the top of the duct and allow for 450mm cover over the top of the duct.

my duct was smaller, 60-70mm but smooth inside and out, flexible enough, they even supplied the special marker tape, quite wide and thick, probably easy to spot with a detector,

I would double double check with them, builder installed a run for us on a property to the spec we were told then the crew turned up and couldn't install as it wasn't to "their" spec builder had to pull up the bricked drive he had just installed on his weekend to sort it.

But do double check the size as 3phase around here needs 125mm duct as @8ob said earlier.

We have just put in ducts on a job for some metered car charging posts, they insisted on 125 duct for those. The cable is only about 30mm od ,I have no idea why they spec these ducts so big

Maybe future-proofing. The labour to put in a small duct is the same as a bigger one. The extra-over material cost is nothing compared to laying another one.

@8ob understand where you are coming from, why are there multiple requirements, either it is 125mm or 70mm As @Agroshield says material difference is small,
Same problem told by one department this is what we want then contractors turn up & say cant do it mate does not comply we just require competent people making decisions,!
Had a gas board road closure (1 week a trench across an access road ) a while ago to fit new supply's great we thought as the Lecy people had to fit new supply as well but No they had to get a separate road closure took another 3 weeks to arrange.
