Sorento fault codes

I thought i would put this on separate to my code reader thread as it's a different issue.
My mate came down this morning and there were two fault codes stored.

P1541 Neutral gear recognition switch open. No idea what this relates to as there is no indication or use of neutral anywhere that I know of. Possibly as a result of a vaguely related fault?

P1188 Fuel pressure monitoring-Leakage. This looks more like it. Faulty sensor or faulty injector(s)?

I started investigating today, starting from the tank. Removed the tank filter/swirl pot and, well...

That's not helping
Fuel filter next.

It's definitely paint. I didn't expect it at this age (the cars not mine), surprised it hadn't come off years ago.

It's definitely paint. What possessed Kia to paint the inside of a fuel tank is beyond me.

Paint good news - compared to Delphi HP pump fragmenting into rail/tank/injectors.

What is your long term plan to seal up - stabilise the inside of tank?

you could by a later tank and fit it. one from around 07-08 shouldn't go flakey.

A few cars have a neutral selector switch it's used by the ECU, although on my nissan I made a new loom and never did get around to connecting it back up, made no difference to running.

I don't have a plan. What I can see of the inside of the tank is clean metal, I have no idea if the filter has been cleaned before (the mangled screws in the floor plate would suggest it has). I've had it 3 years and this is the first time I've cleaned it. I'll see if it happens again and go from there. Not the best plan I know.
I still have the issue of it running poorly off tickover to sort.

I had problems with a Sorento 10 years ago that had similar problems , can’t recall what the fault codes were but they related to fuel pressure. Checked the tank as per tech bulletin which was OK, changed the fuel filter as it was due a change but fault still there. Leak off test on the injectors was OK . Live data showed an intermittent pressure in the fuel rail so the pressure valve on the fuel rail was changed which sorted the problem . I’ve had to change the same valve several times on different vehicles over the years that have had several symptoms, bad starting, poor idle,cutting out, losing power . Sometimes the valve is available as a separate part if you go to a diesel specialist, we used one in Colchester . Once we had to change the fuel rail as the valve wasn’t available separately but in every case it sorted the problem

We had a wander out to a local brewery taproom for lunch and a pint today (Braybrooke Beer Company) which confirmed what I thought the day before.
Cleaning the fuel tank filter has made a world of difference . The juddering has all but gone (just a bit just off idle but nothing like it was) and it just feels so much more eager. Even wifey commented on it. This has been creeping up on me for a while and I didn't notice.
