MrsG has dictated my last two projects (crab & fern) so I decided I wanted to do a project for me.
And the time felt right to do something I've had in my mind for a while now.

Think I'm done with this. I've reached a point where I just don't want (can't see how) to add to it. It's not changed much, most of the recent welding was internal stuff to tie the bits together for strength.
For once I might well leave this as is rather than let it rust. That does of course mean some degreasing and lacquering if it's to go outside (bet it will still rust though) or having it indoors.
For the latter I need to make a suitable base/stand for it, a nice bit of wood perhaps.

To my shame it still has no base

I'm torn between something out of wood for indoors, or a concrete/stone column for the garden and letting it rust.
Either way I don't have the materials.
It's currently still in the garage clamped to a shelf.

The second picture was disturbing.
I was hoping you werent making a male 'Support Garment'. In my head I inverted the picture.

Well Barney decided it was too cluttered indoors so he decided to move into the garden, with a little salt water shower to help him on his way.
After a suitable level of rust was achieved he was brushed off and lacquered. I did lacquer his eyes before rusting so as to keep them bright.





Time now for the much needed plinth/pedestal to replace the pole.
I've considered brick, concrete, stone and timber. I've always liked metal and wood together, so had a play with some old pallets.
Obviously not finished yet (or level ... or central) it's just placed over the pole, but you get the idea.
Planning on making a fixing that comes out more backwards so there vertical 'pole' part is to the rear of the box and his head just floats there ... obviously that's all just rubbish as it's bound to still be visible but maybe less so?? Perspex rod??

Plinth/pedestal completed, only 3 sided so you can bang in a couple of big rebar spikes into the ground to anchor it from inside.
Mounting pole adjusted to cant backwards so it's a bit less obvious (I hope).
Ages spent trying to get it sat correctly in the border ... not sure it's 100% even now, that wonky fence throws your eye out!

Anyway he's finished..........

I suppose it'd depend on the name, which seems to be in vogue atm.

That dark green foliage'll soon encompass him, I assume you sited him there deliberately.

His name is Barney.

Yep that location was always going to have something there. It's the far side of the garden to a seat so a focal point.
Ivy is rife in that bed so the hope is that it will take hold on the pedestal.

It'll take hold of you if you stand still for long enough You'll need to occasionally trim it back off Barney but you'll have worked that out.

Next time I'm out for my 'allowed' exercise walk, if I remember, I'll take a pic of a house in the village which the ivy has taken over - to a ridiculous degree imo, in fact I'm sure it's now damaging the property.

As per above post, here's the ivy......it actually looks 'neater' in the pic, but it's up under the slates and in the window openings.
