some advice on fillet welds

I have trying to do some fillet welds to make a tee joint and its not going well . I am doing it with 2mm plate . the setting are fine when I do a butt joint on the plate doesn't blow threw and have good penetration. but as soon as I try the tee it becomes blobs and then blows threw plus I even had the wire burn back and melt the nozzle . can anyone explain to me how and where I point the torch to on the metal . (ei deep in the corner or to the top metal or bottom and do you point it in from the top or more from the side and do you pull the weld or push it away ) . all advice welcome . I have only been learning a couple of weeks on off

Push for better penetration.

Sounds like you have the wire speed too low.

I could be wrong, but on a fillet weld the power should be set for thinner metal on the first pass. Or ... If you've only ground back one piece of metal - say the vertical one - you should start the arc on the lower, thicker piece and merely 'flick' over to the upper side of the fillet to make it fuse into the puddle. This is even more important if welding with the lower piece flat on the work bench as a lot of heat will be soaked away by the underlying metal acting as a heat sink.

A thought: What are your settings? Which welder? Which gauge of wire? Gas/gasless? They all make a difference.

turn the wire speed up a bit, hold torch at 45 degrees between each price of metal, point the wire into the root of the joint and give a slight push angle in the direction of travel. It will take a bit of practice.

regardless of process, i tend to tread flat butt, flat lap and flat open corner the same, turn it up a bit for flat fillet and horizontal welds, then down a tiny bit for vertical up and overhead. If i were to go vertical down i would up the amps quite a bit as you generally have to travel faster going down and risk lack of fusion in the root

On 2mm plate start at the bottom and work upwards. Angle the torch so you're pushing it up hill, not pulling.
Keep it at a consistent angle (hard to say which though, perhaps 30 to 35 degrees off being at 90 degrees to the workpiece).
Keep a steady movement with the torch, keeping the wire aimed right into the corner.
If the wire is burning back to the tip increase the speed slightly, and practice.
