I went for the A4 bolts.
It's on a lift keel trailer sailer so it won't constantly stay submerged and get washed down with fresh water after every session.

Tell me more about the trailer sailer, this is something I have been investigating living next door to a large reservoir.

It's a matilda 20. Can sleep 4. Pretty much the size of a 4 man tent inside and floats in a foot of water so unlike most other sailboats with a keel, it can be sailed onto the beach.
Takes about 1/2 an hour to get the mast, rigging and sails up. No marina fees, so essentially the cheapest form of sailing that offers a dry space to sleep.

Im assuming the bolts were to hold the keel bulb on. Nice little boat.
, and itll sail much better than many of its contempories, being a fin.

Ive being looking at hunter formula 1s, but there all at the wrong end of the country for me

She's no f1, but for getting away from it all on a budget, she can't be beat.
Aye, the bolts are to keep the bulb on. I'm sailing on freshwater lochs 90% of the time.

Last time I sailed on frish water mirror dinghies were all the rage, and I was still at school.

For me trailer sailer isnt so much about avoiding mooring fees, more about launch rig and recover with out a crane. Then I can bring it home. But having sailed mostly quite high performance boats, it must sail well, or would end up another unused toy!

I need to replace 2 bolts that are 1/2 x 8" unf A2 stainless. They are partially threaded and go through 2 cast iron lumps sandwiching a 10mm plate, the ballast on a boat keel.
I can't find 8" bolts, but can find threaded rod. Would threaded rod be fine, or should I really find some partially threaded bolts?

Did you not have any of my earlier bolt Packs? I am sure there were some in there that would have fitted the bill. Although they were not stainless. 20kg for £20 you could afford to change them every 12 months.
