Solenoid coils 48v looking for some advice

Hi I aquiered another compressor today, the oil stop valve is not working






rather than buying a complete valve I thought about just replacing the solenoid coil its a 48v one, going by the stamp on the top.




thereare some on the net.

How do i figure out if its a AC or DC coil I need

What about putting an auto-ranging meter on the plug pinouts? It should automatically detect the voltage and whether it's AC or DC.

I dont have an auto ranging meter

Just having a look at the wiring manual there is a transformer

I know what a transformer is whats a PSU

Psu - power supply unit - a dc power source to provide low voltage DC control voltage, in place of a transformer

I’d say it’s an ac coil looking at the markings - 48/50 would mean to me it’s 48v 50 hz

Any signs of diodes or capacitors if not then will be AC.

Cheers guys. Looking at the wiring scematic its powered by transformer I think Ive outlined the transformer and the coil.

more than likel they used to stamp it on all british stuff . presume u have tested the coil for continuity and voltage to the plug

Have not had time to get this other compressor on the power yet, so as yet, unable to see if power is getting to the solenoid coil, I did put the meter on it today and the resistance reads 19 which means nothing to me. I have to disconnect my original compressor first to get this one on line, hopefully its on the cards over this weekend, time permitting. I am hoping to have this compressor up and running asap, as It is the same make and model as the one I am running now Ingersoll Rand SSR ML30. The one I use has 48000hrs on the clock
and still running sweet this one has only 17000hrs.
I picked this one up quite cheep as it had an overheat shut down, I was assuming the oil shut down solenoid valve, but after taking the oil cooler rad off today I think I found the problem. Yesterday so its cleaner to work on, I gave the machine a degreasing and power wash,



I also gave the rad a degrease and power wash but wasn't happy with the result as its difficult to get to the rad with the washer lance. So today off came the front end and out came the oil cooler rad.



To say it was filthy blocked would be an understatement who ever did the servicing on this machine should be sacked, although its turned out great for me.




It took a few goes with the no nonsense degreasing fluid but I am happy now air can get through it.



While I had the casing off I check the air end bearing they all seam good, so fingers crossed when I have it powered up. I am hoping to use this one as my main compressor and keep the other one as a stand by then sell the diesel hydrovane as who needs 3.
