Solar powered security lights

The other half accidentally left her car unlocked overnight (on the drive) and thinks someone had a rifle through it although there was nothing in there worth taking.

Thinking of putting a security light up just for her piece of mind and have seen that amazon do solar powered ones that have good reviews such as:

Obviously installing a solar powered one is a lot less hassle but my own experience of solar powered lights are those awful garden ones that are dead within 30 minutes.

Anyone able to shed some (solar poweee) light on these?

very dim , wont charge up in winter and not sealed against the rain from my experience

I've had some for a few years now and they are fine for what I want, its just so that I can see in the dark along a path so I dont trip up over anything and can see to put a key in the lock of my door. the ones that I got are like this but black.

they use rechargeable AA batteries in them, so I replaced the original ones with NiHM batteries and in winter if they go flat its easy enough to take them out to recharge.

most of the cheap ones have built in batteries that go flat quickly and cant be recharged due to a lack of daylight in winter

Simple.....don't leave the car unlocked or anything that's valuable in it.

I unlocked the wifes car when I put the reycling out last week. They only emptied the usual green bin, but didnt bother with the red one even though i unlocked it specially.

Not an opion to put up a proper exterior electric one?
All the solar ones i've seen are junk.

Yeah I can do just a bit more invasive as the walls are solid flint. Solar ones seemed a bit too good to be true to be honest

We rented a cottage that had some.....they were really good....when it went dark they shone but brightened if you went past........I cant remember the name....I was going to buy some when I got back...they were about 20 quid each...and I really cant remember the brand name

we have a good one, it is constantly on after dark till its battery gets too low then goes on pir only. charges perfectly even in the winter. I will have a look tomorrow to see if i can find its make.

I have one of these outside my garage, only comes on when something triggers it, but it is pretty bright and more of a deterrent than a light on all the time I reckon.

Is it as good as a proper wired in one would you say?

Do the job properly - I had a problem with local low life coming and checking if the car was locked at night and rummaging through it on the one occasion I forgot to lock it - I put up a 50W LED floodlight - its like daytime now and you can see them on the security cameras deciding not to come near the house. A little more work but well worth the effort.

Not as bright as a 1000 watt halogen, but surprisingly good for the price and simplicity.

If you want to run wires, connect to mains etc then a big floodlight will be better.

If it is permanently on then scum bags can case the joint from afar, see where your camera is, fences, security etc.

no need for them to look during the night they just come in bold as brass during the day and look even if your in I have dusk to dawn lights as well as pir. they don't sneek in as the vehicles are lit up permanently

Just remembered I took a photo of the good ones that were in the rental cottage....the brand is OTHWAY.......theres some on ebay at 18.50 for pack of 2....Ive been threatening to buy some....so I will.
