Software for drawing this?

I was hoping to find a software program that would permit me to make a "Mask" for chemical engraving this sort of logo, but I wanted to change the words in it to reflect the names of a few different people. Any suggestions for software that would enable me to manipulate text to match the shapes above? If successful, I might get my foot in the door with some "Goodwood Revival" people.

Inkscape would do it and it’s free

You could even do it on MS word or MS publisher if you have them anyway?

It’s been ages since I used publisher but I’m sure it had a means of doing text to vanishing point.

Inkscape as above it's free, but can make punching yourself in the face seem a nice option.

Corel draw expensive but pretty good.

Is there still a 30-day trial of Corel Draw that you could download? I use Inkscape for drawing template and bits of vector artwork, but when I had some decals made the maker told me he'd had issues with files exported from Inkscape and recommended I use the Corel trial instead. I only mention Corel, along with @mtt.tr above, because I know it can do the text effect that you want and I've never tried it in Inkscape.

+1 for Coreldraw. I use an old version I bought on ebay (Coreldraw 12) and it'll do what you need with no problems at all (I think the first version I used was version 7, back in the mid 90s and even that could do what you need. Much cheaper than buying the latest version.

Free options include inkscape (which is very powerful but can be a bit painful) or LibreOffice Draw.

I've downloaded Inkscape and have found the right font but not yet worked out if it can 'shrink' the image round the text. I'll see if I can work my way through the tutorials online.

The idea is to put a couple of names in the logo and then Laser print it and use the ink as a resist for etching into Ali or Brass to make name badges.

For once gaztube is actually really handy. It’s good for stuff like this.

Corel draw is really good. I’ve not used it since the 90s but it’s very good from what I remember

I am not an Inkscape expert but it’s what I use for vector stuff. If I can help I will, just shout. A lot of its online though

I'd use inkscape, you can make the text mould to shapes so getting the shape drawn out first is the key.

What 'function' is used to shrink the text at the ends? I've worked out text and how to make it a vector image but not had any joy shrinking. Path Effects was where I was looking.

I tried coraldraw, inkscape & illustrator.
Illustrator seemed the easiest by far.
My problem was mainly to do with cutting unwanted bits of lines away, when I was successful
the ends of the lines wouldn't behave. illustrator worked.

Text to path is what you need

If he wants to make more than one of the badges for sale, I think he will need a way of editing the text.

The other thing noteable with the original is that the space occupied by 'FRASER' and 'NASH' is the same (even though one has four letters and the other six), and is mirrored about the centreline. So, rather than a diamond shape, containing two words separated by a space, he might need two triangle shapes with one word in each. It will read very poorly if the maximum size does not happen at the word break.

Yes. That’s how I’d do it.

I think that’s an option covered in the video. I was busy earlier so it was the first one that came up which looked about right.

Once you’ve cracked text to path you can play with it in lots of different ways.

Text to vanishing point or perspective text is the official name(s) I think.

Have a look to see if you can control individual character widths. It looks like Inkscape is only scaling the text vertically and doing nothing in the horizontal direction. The 'M' is too wide for its height. The 'K' is about right but the 'E' and 'G' are to skinny. The second 'B' needs a belly reduction. Perhaps do a sample with two words with quite different numbers of letters (Jo Featherstone) and also a mix of 'wide' and 'narrow' characters.

Hmmmmm. For some reason I can't get it to 'invert' the black/white components. I'll need to do that to use it as a 'mask'.
