Hi , I'm currently learning Mig welding at college part time , and plan to learn arc and Tig also. i would like to weld for a living and have looked on internet for jobs , it seems there are loads, is this because the companies looking for welders can't find the right skilled welder? I also heard that its differcult to get to work as a welder unless you have been doing it for many years.

I've got twenty odd year as a stick welder both uncoded and coded but also mig-cough cough,splutter splutter and i can't find work.........
I know a hell of a lot of seriously good lads who are in the same boat......It's called the Titanic!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
A very good piece of advice for you,before you get too old,study the market and think of a change before you end up without work!!!!!!!!!!!..........

Most jobs for mig welders will be welder fabricator type work (point & squirt as they are known), nothing wrong with that and you can make a decent living at it.
TIG work, if you can get it, is usually specialised work, mostly stainless or ali. If you can get coded something like 6g or 6gr you could get work off shore or working shutdowns.
Agencies advertise all the time for this sort of work even when they have none so they can have a good list of workers.
We get a lot of "welders" come for a very basic weld test, a fillet in 5mm and welding a circular boss, and the standard for this is very poor.
