With my most recent experience I'd be inclined to agree with you.

My wife wants to know why someone would stick spaghetti into a cats backside.

It's okay though if you're trying to do something straightforward and sensible with all the right bits...

if you have done gas... not too bad to start

If you can gas weld, then TIG will seem pretty easy. However for those who simply have no idea at all, it is a process which may well be an uphill struggle, and take an awful long time to master.
