Snap on scanner

Spent a couple of hours recceing the steam rally for tomorrow. One of the tool stalls was selling this . When i asked him the price i grabbed it . Ive borrowed one in the past to do work on the landrover and zafira, but wondering what else it will do, and what it might be worth (havent even had chance to check all the adaptors and modules are there yet but the scanner and keys are there and in good condition)

Early early scanner, pre solus.
But when you can get a relatively recent solus pro for short change I probably wouldn't have looked at this.

Will have to see how modern it goes too to see how much use it may have.

An old MT2500! I've had one for donkeys years. Still comes out once in a blue moon to read old stuff. Mainly Sierra Cosworth. Not much use on anything modern. The personality keys and adaptors can be used with newer solus etc.

I thought that about the keys, its all very unworn. Its a keeper I think.

I think these came out in 1987? From the Sun factory in the town I live in (King's Lynn).

Last software update was 2009 - Software Bundle 9.2 (spring 2009) - I think?

At the time I was using Sykes Pickavant AC4 cartridge stuff - never owned a Snap On scanner - have repaired a few of these (red bricks) in the early days - that is how I know about the updates. I doubt I still got the update data lying about here.

What is is worth - something if you are driving an early 90's car. But to be honest - there was better diagnostic kit about at the time than one of these.

Bosch KTS300/301 "hammer head" was the tool of choice from that era - I got a 1994 one that I still use on early Porsche stuff from time to time..

One of these made £620 and 15bids on eBay in April of this year.

My old boss paid £200 for one of those as they scan classic minis. If it was me I'd pay no more than £100 as the more modern stuff can be had for £300+ second hand.

The late spi and mpi minis presumably. Never needed to use a scanner on one when we owned them but they were 'new' cars at the time without the problems that 25+ years later can throw up. Like that my old classic mini is about as complicated as a wheelbarrow, most electrical diagnostics carried out with a 12v bulb.

I still got a Rover Testbook here. Not used it for years - but that is hwat we used on SPi/MPi minis.

Useful for old school motors so always good, i mainly use VW based motors these days so i have a laptop and VAGcom which does pretty much everything we want

The later units dispensed with all the interchangeable modules which I think is a lot more convenient. Last time I checked SP diagnostics were still selling an updated version.

I have been on the lookout for a T4 for ages, but there are a couple of T4 alternatives still being developed - just goes to show there must still be a demand for the older stuff.

This is not Sykes Pickavant - it is who bought the stuff off Facom (who owned Sykes years ago). Chaps name is Winston Hill - nice chap. I got a silver SPi handset - not updated it for years.

Its worthless to some one doing modern cars but valuable to people with older stuff like me, similar Snap on pone went for £45 at Rufforth Jumble, I use a small Blue point one but it will only do engine management stuff.
In conclusion is courses for courses, we still have a few vehicles you cant plug it!

Ive spent some time on it today. Im blaming the apprentice but some of the adaptors hadnt been put back in their foam inserts. So its complete, very clean and boots up on the 9v battery. Ill flip it on marketplace I think
