Righty, got the motor spline in the vice this morning before coming to work, and twisted it to free it off.
Turns and catches, like a cam, so not running freely, definately ******ed...
"Johnson" motors ( www.johnsonmotor.com ) are the most common make used in cordless tools. You may be able to get a replacement, or even find the same motor in a much cheaper brand of cordless tool. However, the original motor may be fixable: sounds like one of the very powerful rare-earth magnets inside has come unglued from the casing. Prise the end-caps off, glue the magnet back with JBWeld or Loctite superglue.
I dont, and can't easily find any information of snap on men/vans in my area.
It's like a secret club !
Snap on site seems useless, they dont list them, which is ridiculous.
I have seen vans, but my memory is not good enough to memorise the name a number of the franchisee !
I'm just an office worker who bought snap on tool via ebay, I dont frequent garages and industrial estates, where I might find them !

Thanks for the tip though,
I'll try harder to find one if it's that reasonably priced for an overhaul
If you can get a replacement motor stateside, could an American forum member order one and forward it on to you? i.e. you order and pay for it to there address, they then forward to your address. Worth a try
Pete - I'm not confident to break into the motor, had another look tonight, those tabs on the motor casing are solid, pressed in and wont budge levering it.
Called Snap-on direct, and as NeilH said, they will refurb the gun for around 80 quid.
The motor alone is around 45, but I may aswell get it all looked at.
I think I'll be using the phone more than emails more now, much better response speaking to someone !
