As for what it can cause my Father in law never smoked yet died a horrendous death from lung cancer, wasn't one for going out so never really came into contact with other smokers. Go figure!

My last dog died of a primary lung cancer, and he never had a fag in his life.

He had to put up with my smokey fug though. I gave up eleven years back, and almost never get out of breath anymore. It's great having lungs. No-one should be without them.

Doubt it. I stopped November last year and could have easily continued down the non smoking path if I'd chosen. Simply didn't want to.

If im honest, I did it to save money rather than for the health benefits. 25 fags a day roughly equates to a tenner a day. £150 saved already.

I have never smoked - far too tight with money to spend it on a hobby like that - but kudos to anyone giving up, it's a massive achievement.

I spent about 6-8 years giving up an starting again. Gave up for about 2 years once then started again...

You will notice you're better at breathing now though, as time progresses. Far less likely to get out of breath with owt and nowt tasks. That's the one real bonus to packing in the cigs, IMHO, and the reason I ditched smoking those completely, (bar the four i've had over the last year to be courteous).

Hated it when the sense of taste altered though. That put me off several things I enjoyed for quite a while, until I adjusted. The pipe & its tobacco just doesn't kill the taste buds like the cigs did, and I'm honestly still not sure if I like that bit.
