smoking gas

hi all
i hope someone can point me in the right direction please
the gas i am using is argon co2 5% mix i have it set to about 15l/m but it seams to give of a lot of smoke i also get like a brown soot round the weld.

Hi there, and welcome to the Forum!
You don't say what type of welding you are doing, so I'll assume MIG, from the gas mix.
The sooty, smoky effect is usually from lack of gas coverage, maybe the gas is not quite getting through?

if you are welding in doors you only need it set to around 10 lpm

yep was not sure if this was the right place to post it is mig welding on mild steel i will try reducing the flow and clean or replace the sheld

that is very heavy.
I usually set my reg at about 6-8Lpm.
but I am working indoors on usually quite small workpieces.

im with chunkolini on the lpm ,exept when its abit windy around the garage door when i might up it abit.
