I'm wanting to install a "smart" home audio system in my house
Nothing fancy: speakers in the ceiling of living room, kitchen, two bedrooms, bathroom(maybe), and patio - multiple sources, but I don't need them multiplexed, only one source will be playing at any time, potentially over any combination of rooms.
Just plain "stereo" will do, I don't need surround sound, and I can live with only one room being "on" at a time.
So I'm thinking each room should have its own microcontroller (weimos d1 probably, with ethernet + amplifier hat) connected via a POE cat5e cable and set up as a "media player" via esphome/home assistant
Better still would be a "box' that has multiple switched speaker outputs, and a single input - preferably one that can be ethernet/WiFi controlled via an API. (although if it can be IR/433Mhz remote controlled, I can work with it)
There must be_something_ like this, for a reasonable price - "home cinema "boom boxes" have multiple inputs to one speaker, so the reverse can't be that difficult/expensive?
Any ideas? Comments?
