I've bought £430 worth of rattle cans (primer, base coat, lacquer) so far this year making things like the towel rail pic attached. Pro-cote stuff from Toolstation is the cheapest I've found whilst not being terrible, still I'm using about £2 of rattle cans on a 50cm towel rail.
Is there a cheaper, better method? ("cheap" includes my time as well as paint cost). There is no permanent spray booth, there is no compressor (nor will there be, space concerns) - i'm taking parts out to a leaky greenhouse when it's not raining. Rattle cans are pretty efficient with time - no cleanup, no electricity hookup, but there's enough overspray that I'm eyeing alternatives. 2 part epoxy paints probably not practical - my batches too small to make the prep time cost efficient. But maybe solvent based single part acrylic paints in a HVLP 'leccy sprayer - even a relative cheapy like a Wagner 690 - will prove so much more cost efficient it'll outstrip the cleaning/setup time/cost? Or perhaps it's most cost efficient to just brush hammerite on?
Appreciate thoughts
