small gas blow lamp for soldering ,reconmendations please

I have to re solder/lay the mid rib on one of my clay busters , experiance wise had plenty years back doing sweated joints the size of a match box down to 5 thou wires ,previous life I was a armature/transformer/stator winder, but can any one recomend me a small gas recharge able blow lamp suitable for doing mid rib please , yes I will wire everything , clay or similar to soak heat away so I dont unsolder top rib etc at the same time..Thanks in advance .

i own 5 of them 2 are normal old style blow lamps used on plumbing

this one i can braze with it



this one is the superfire model looking down into it and yes a loverly blob of solder in it this is how the vortex is created on them



my other is also a mapp gas blow torch without the vortex on it and a different flame on it

between them i have my favourate blowlamp the top picture its had tyears of service with it and i look after it

the mapp gas im not a lover off due to peierser in them prefer to light from the end than pay for a gimmick with mapp blow lamps...

Got a variety of heating and brazing equipment, but there's always a requirement for a smaller and more delicate flame, it seems.
I have been using one of the old Camping Gaz Soudogaz items that I've had for about fifty years, but sourcing the cartridges is getting a bit sporadic these days, sadly.
Might have to get a Rothenberger, or something like that.....

agree , have one of those camping gas jobbies but cant get canisters easily

did the same job on a side by side a few years ago...i opted for low temp solder and just used a standard plumbers torch with a blue bottle

Low temperature solder is likely an important choice. Overheating the barrels, locally, is not a good idea. Our resident firearm specialist (Northwest) should be along shortly, to advise.

agree , although most above look good for plumbing etc I was thing small refillable gas type jobbie , so just heat local area without a lot of extra build up , but thinking on I modified a propane torch with a clamp and some tudding to hold a thick L shaped copper head, this was used on some heavy copper alternator joints (on the windings) torch playing on one side and giving the heat the L was then tinned , held against the joint unitll it could be filled and move along , so very good heat control in the local area , might see if I can find a bit of 1"wide by 1/4" by 5" and make another up and see how that goes , basically its like the old solid copper irons but with heat added so does nt cool out on contact with heavy joint.

with the blow lamp gas bottle theres 2 sorts

either a butane gas bottle or a butane/ propane mix the hotter type being the mixed one

there about 5.00 for a bottle of gas 350g bottle

I dont know how small you need nor what a mid rib is nor how much energy it needs to do the job, but for really really fine work I have a chef's blowlamp that is rechargeable by a lighter gas refill canister. It doesn't last a huge amount of time, but it is very very controllable for very fine work compared to my disposable canister butane gas blowtorch that I mostly use to light the wood furnace in winter now. They're cheap too, under a tenner I think it was from lidl's or one of the other cheap places centre isle.

Primus 2000 (sievert now), you can get different sized nozzles as well. Look up FB market for the cylinder.
