Small 2 minute favour in Leeds - AC TIG

Sorry if this seems a bit rude as ive not been on here long.

I'm installing a water/meth kit on my car and to install the nozzle on the piping i need to drill and tap a hole, however the metal is too thin and needs building up slightly (3mm or something) in order to get a good thread.

The part is the right "horn" on the top of the engine here (that holds the intercooler, which isn't there in the pic)

Its cast alloy so i guess would require an AC TIG, which i don't have unfortunately.

Happy to provide some beer money etc. obviously and will repay the favor if you need something doing to your car

As an alternative method, drill a hole in the alloy part to take a nut and bolt that has been drilled and tapped to take the pipe fitting you need to use. Mastic sealer can be used to seal the hole where the nut and bolt is installed.

Yehhh that is another option actually, didnt think of that, the only problem with that is the nut in the pipe i guess will create turbulence, also i'm doing it on the side, quite far down from the hole, which would be almost impossible to hold the nut to tighten it.

Forgot to mention the part is off the car as i bought a spare one.

Would a rivnut threaded insert do the job, yes a small obstruction but a lot of hassle saved.

even easier option, get an aluminium bulkhead pipe fitting from somewhere like Earls, made for the job and already has a JIC thread to take a female hose fitting. You just drill a hole, insert the male threaded fitting with mastic thread sealer and tighten a nut on the other side with locktite, cut off the excess length of thread. I wouldn't worry about turbulance or airflow reduction, wouldn't be a problem unless you were chasing every last increment of power.

Ok, if it needs to be welded, find a company called C.Wylde & Son in Leeds and phone them, they are into bikes but will almost certainly know of a reliable welder locally.

I'd be surprised if whoever you find to weld it can't make the boss. Motorsport places like Pace Products sell a variety but NPT/BSP/metric bosses are so simple to make i only bother buying in JIC
