Slow motor

Just picked up a battery grinder which barely spins and makes the battery get hot
Other than that and the fact it had a lot of what looks like cement dust inside it appears to have had little use
Anyone have any ideas what could be the fault and is it fixable?

bad connection arcing in the battery possibly strip the battery if possible and check

Battery is fine its from my drill
Connections inside the grinder that the battery connects to look fine too (clean and tight together)
Brushes don't look knackered either as far as I could see.
Didn't take them out though because I'm unfamiliar with the spring arrangement holding them in

i had a couple of makitas and the motors and battery fine turned out the elecronic switches were burning and shorting out .a new switch 35 quid stuff that i chucked them

Is there any way of testing the switch mate, I have a multimeter
This is a Bosch gws BTW

seperate the leads of the switch to the motor and conect directly to the battery and see if it runs ok

tried bypassing the switch like you said
still turned slowly with smoke coming from where i touched wire on battery

sounds a bit like the motor windings have shorted out inside

i take it its not worth fixing then
oh well it was free so no biggie

If there was cement dust or similar inside, I'd be tempted to strip it and thoroughly clean it out first off. It could merely be that it's so gunged up with fine dust that the rotor/bearings are practically seized solid.

The same thing happened with my Dremel when my dad used it to cut up a fibreglass box, it went really slow and smoked, then it just wouldn't start. Everything inside looked okay, just dusty, and the brushes were fine. I threw it out in the end. Dad still hasn't bought me a new one though.
