slip bricks -suitable near a fireplace?

never handled a slip brick or heard of them until today

id like to update our 1970s fireplace to something similar to this ..would slip bricks be suitable for the front facing part of the brickwork or no

The bricks will be fine - it's what you stick them on with that need careful selection. BTW I have no idea what is a suitable adhesive

I'e just done that with the bricks at the rear of my fireplace due to limited clearance for the stove, so far so good.....

Slips are made from normal brick materials,
Some firms cast them as a slip , others cut the face off a full brick, so yes they will take the heat, as said it's the adhesive that needs a bit of thought.

also while im here , i think the wall might need leveling up a bit to where the slips need to go , havent knocked the old one down yet , would render be the correct stuff to use if the wall wants bringing up to level or what ?

Topps tiles, Hartley Old red... Bal flexible adhesive and cement coloured grout.

I used to get them from Wickes and used some adhesive a mate got me for sticking slip corners on the outside of houses but it was a fair time ago, I have done a few cast concrete fire places that were tiled and just needed a fast/economical update, With a used fire surround just repainted and still left as an open coal fire it made a huge difference, Here a link to ibstock info for slip bricks
